Yacht Maintenance


Southampton, 1 or 2 days, Module 1 £95 & Module 2 £150

Designed as complementary modules, these courses develop yacht maintenance skills and to use on the pontoon and at sea.

Core Module Format - Basic Maintenance
Prevention better than cure! Students will be shown how to perform basic maintenace tasks
    Content
  • Plumbing - hot and cold water supply systems, toilets and shower systems, hot air heating systems
  • Electrical & Electronics - batteries and charging systems, VHF radios and navigation lights
  • Mechanical - steering systems / auto pilots, deck gear including winches, anchor / windlass
  • Safety - gas and smoke flarms, fire extinguishers, bilge pumps, sea cocks
  • Navigation instrumentation testing and integration into a network

Advanced Module Format - Seaborne Maintenance
This course uses scenarios at sea to provide the student with faulting finding and repair opportunities in a practical, safe environment
    Content
  • Real maintenance situations likely to be experienced at sea will be simulated
  • Preventative maintenance tasks will be demonstrated
  • Faultfinding in a seaway - diagnosis, pitfalls and solutions
  • Experience in real time using the tools, spare parts and reference books available on a well equipped cruising yacht
