Short Range Certificate (SRC) - VHF & DSC

Southampton, 1 Day, from £73 (Excludes RYA Exam/License Fee)

The VHF Short Range Certificate (SRC) is the radio operator qualification that authorises the holder to operate a VHF radiotelephone fitted with Digital Selective Calling (DSC) on board any British vessel voluntarily fitted with radio equipment.

Format
The course is built around practical sessions on digital and VHF simulators. It uses ‘role playing’ emergency and day to day radio scenarios to reinforce learning. Practical advice is provided for using the radio at sea for routine calling or in the unlikely event of casualty working.
    Content
  • Set up and operate the VHF Radio equipment
  • Speak on the VHF Radio set using the ‘right’ language
  • Understand how the VHF Radio System integrates with Digital Selective Calling under the umbrella of the GMDSS
  • Be aware of other forms of communication within GMDSS and their uses, e.g. EPIRB’s, SART’s and NAVTEX
  • Gain confidence in the use of VHF and DSC techniques in a relaxed environment

Features
Student to Simulator Ratio is no more than 3:1 using both practical computer based and practical VHF simulators.

Students are encouraged to devise their own role-play scenarios from real life experiences within the group.

The day is made up of small tasks and exercises that form an overall assessment of a student’s competence to operate VHF and DSC equipment.

London location also available for small groups.
