Instructor Assessments

If you have a RYA Yachtmaster (Offshore) certificate, it is possible to qualify at two levels as a sailing instructor. These are Cruising Instructor and Yachtmaster Instructor.

Cruising Instructor Assessment - Sail

An intensive 3 day course to enable qualified Yachtmasters to develop their instructional skills at Cruising Instructor level.

The course will major on teaching the elements of the Start Yachting, Competent Crew and Day Skipper Practical syllabi demonstrating techniques using real exercises and role play.

Participants of this course should be prepared to teach any aspect of these courses.

Discussion will also include how to structure a course from client arrival to departure.

Whilst the course is a formal assessment by the Chief Instructor or Principal of the school an equally important aim is to develop the instructional ability of the participants

Yachtmaster Instructor Re Qual Assessment - Sail (2 days)

• RYA YMI and CI qualifications need to be renwed every 5 years. This intensive two day activity provides an opportunity to requalify and retain the highest level of RYA instructional qualification.

Yachtmaster Instructor Assessment - Sail (7 days)

• An intensive 7 day activity to enable experienced Yachtmasters and Cruising Instructors to achieve the highest level of RYA instructional qualification
• This challenging activity assumes competence and prior knowledge of all aspects of shorebased and practical syllabi up to and including Yachtmaster level.
• An intensive two day preparation activity will ensure you start the independent RYA assessment in the right frame of mind
• A five day assessment follows by two independent RYA Yachtmaster Instructor Examiners. Their prime objective is to assess your competence and ability to teach at all levels. This will be achieved using role play, short talks and discussion
• A simulated helicopter rescue features as part of this course. This and many other features ensure participants also learn from the challenging experience.
